2nd & 1st Kyu

Pre-requisites

  • A financial member in long standing with the Kyushin Ryu School of Jujitsu
  • A person of sound moral character
  • A sound level of fitness
  • The holder of a Blue Belt
  • Participation in 20 active training sessions at the dojo since achieving Blue Belt

Satisfactory completion of Parts A & B of this curriculum are required for advancement to 2nd Kyu, while Parts C & D are required for advancement to 1st Kyu.

Part A – Theoretical Knowledge

A.1

Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge base in all aspects of Jujitsu, including history, Japanese terminology, dojo etiquette and theory behind the various techniques

A.2

Explain the principles behind the practice of meditation (mokuso)

A.3

Demonstrate and explain the principles of attack and defence as they relate to:

  • Sen (Direct Attack)
  • Sen-no-Sen (Attack on Attack)
  • Go-no-Sen (Counter Attack)

A.4

Demonstrate and explain the principles of the theory of the three circles, as they apply to determining an appropriate method of self-defence

A.5

Provide a brief explanation on the functions of the following body systems:

  • Skeletal System
  • Muscular System
  • Circulatory System
  • Respiratory System
  • Digestive System
  • Nervous System
  • Lympatic System

Part B – Practical Knowledge

B.1

Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge base of break-falling techniques from various directions, as directed by the examiner

B.2

Demonstrate a comprehensive level of knowledge and ability in all previous Practical Knowledge requirements – on both sides of the body

B.3

Demonstrate the effective application of the following:

  • 4 Hp Throws
  • 4 Leg Throws
  • 3 Shoulder Throws
  • 4 Hand Throws
  • 5 Sacrifice Throws
  • 5 Takedowns
  • 9 Target Areas
  • 5 Punches
  • 5 Kicks
  • 5 Blocks

  • 9 Leg Locks
  • 9 Strangles
  • 5 Head Locks
  • 5 Standing Restraint Holds
  • 9 Ground Restraint Holds

B.4

Successful participation in skills-based competitions at inter-club level

 

Part C – Technical Knowledge

C.1

Demonstrate and explain the actions to be undertaken in instances of:

  • Recognition and treatment for shock
  • Recognition and treatment for internal haemorrhage

C.2

Demonstrate the application of:

  • Expire air resuscitation (EAR)
  • Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

C.3

Demonstrate the complete Kyushin Jitsu Kata performed as Uke (2nd Kyu) and Tori (1st Kyu)

Part D – Application of Knowledge

D.1

Demonstrate a high level of skill in kumite and randori

D.2

Demonstrate a high level of skill in the effective use of Practical Knowledge requirements in Part B to address attacks from any direction. Attacks will be nominated by the examiner, and instantaneous reactions are required

D.3

Demonstrate a high level of skill in the practical use of appropriate techniques in the defence against lethal weapons e.g. knife, sword, gun. Attacks will be nominated by the examiner, and an effective reaction is desired

D.4

Demonstrate appropriate defences against 2 and 3 unarmed aggressors in the standing position
