Our Club

We're a 100% volunteer-run, not-for-profit club with one goal: to teach great Jujitsu in a safe, welcoming environment. Kyushin Ryu School of Jujitsu is affiliated with the Australian Jujitsu Federation and the Judo Federation of Australia.

Each of our dojos have an appointed Head Coach and a Senior Coach and at least one Sempai. Coaches are accredited via Australian Ju Jitsu Federation and have a current Blue Card

There are three age groups of students for Jujitsu:

  • Sub-juniors who are 9yrs and under are designated by full colour belt;
  • Juniors who are 10yrs - 13yrs inclusive are designated by a white stripe down the middle of the full length of the belt; and
  • Seniors who are 14+yrs and are designated by a red stripe down the middle of the full length of the belt.

Uniforms (Gis) are white jacket, black pants and belt. Seniors have the Judo gi jacket while younger students generally have a lightweight jacket. Gis, belts and tips can be bought through our School.

Our School is school term based and holidays are the same as Education Queensland

There are two official gradings per year, with mock assessments in Terms 1 and 3.

  • Term 1 (mock grading assessment)
  • Term 2 (Inter club competition + Technical grading)
  • Term 3 (mock grading assessment)
  • Term 4 (Defenses + Technical grading)

What to expect on your first day

Come dressed comfortably — a gi (uniform) isn't required for your first class. You'll be warmly welcomed by our coaches and introduced to the basics alongside other beginners. Classes are friendly, structured, and suitable for all fitness levels. After your first class, our coaches can answer any questions about membership and what to expect going forward.
