Dojo Etiquette

We expect all students to uphold the following standards, which together spell out our guiding principles:

D - Diligently attend all training sessions
O - On entering and leaving the Dojo, bow to Joseki (the senior side of the mat)
J - Join in all aspects of training with enthusiasm
O - Observe good hygiene – wear footwear to and from the tatami, short nails, hair tied back, no jewellery

E - Elect to be a leader in the dojo
T - Throw your opponent safely
I - Interact with your peers respectfully
Q - Question everything — ask lots of questions!
U - Utilise different training methods under instruction
E - Enjoy your experience whilst learning
T - Treat all others with respect
T - Train hard, on and off the mat
E - Exceed your own goals and expectations

R - Respect authority, your partners and your peers
U - Uniform to be clean and tidy with correct belt
L - Listen to, and learn from instructors and coaches
E - Ensure that injuries are reported without delay
S - Safety is to be practised at all times

These principles reflect the rich cultural traditions of Jujitsu and remind us that how we train is just as important as what we train. Etiquette builds respect, safety, and community — the foundations of a great dojo.
