Information:

Sensei Darren's first interest in martial arts began in 1970 learning Tae Kwon Do at the local youth club in Ballarat, Victoria, but soon decided that this style of martial art did not appeal to him. After a short 30-year break from martial arts he commenced Tai Bo and Kick Boxing at the CWA Hall in Redcliffe. Whilst Darren thoroughly enjoyed this attacking style of martial art, after a couple of years he realised that this was a sport better suited to younger practitioners, and he began looking for something a little less painful but still personally challenging. It was in 2001 at the Sandgate PCYC he found the Kyushin Ryu School of Jujitsu. Darren was promoted to Nidan in February 2010.

Sensei Darren really enjoys Kyushin Ryu Jujitsu because of its observance to the traditional Japanese style as a martial art. The school’s curriculum also provides him with a comprehensive arsenal of self defence skills that never seems to end. He especially enjoys that Shihan Jim and Sensei Meladee Stackpoole expose all the practitioners to other contemporary martial arts through their long standing association with many other external martial arts schools, too numerous to mention.  Finally, he also enjoys and appreciates the long-term friendships that he has gained over the years.

Sensei Darren’s philosophy is: "Growing brain cells is easy, using them is hard”.
