What is jujitsu?

Jujitsu is a form of unarmed combat which originated in the Orient. Its origins can be traced well into Japanese and Chinese history. Training in Jujitsu incorporates the use of the techniques for self-defence, unarmed combat, sporting and social / recreational pursuits.

Jujitsu training includes the application of the following techniques:
            

Ukemi waza

falling techniques

Nage waza

throwing techniques

Kansetsu waza

joint-locking techniques (wrist, elbow, shoulder, knee and ankle joints)

Shime waza

strangling techniques

Atemi waza

striking techniques (punches and kicks)

Katame waza

holding (immobilisation) techniques 

Ne waza

grappling techniques

• Katsu waza

resuscitation (first-aid) techniques
